MAXIMUM ROCK-N-ROLL#276 (USA) APRIL 2006 As soon as the needle hit the groove I knew that I had a rocker on my hand. Of course, the BASEBALL FURIES haven´t gives us a bad release since they dropped their first scorcher oh a 7" back in 1996, so this is just par of course. The last time I reviews the BASEBALL FURIES release they were from Buffalo, but I´m happy to say that the Chicago thing hasn´t diminished they punk´nroll fury of this band one bit. If a couple new BASEBALL FURIES originals werenßt enough, this also includes a version of the Reatards "Quite all Right". Recommend for anyone with a pulse (JF)

DEGENERATION OVERDRIVE#3 (CAN) JUNE 2006 Amid rumors that Buffalo NY expatriates cum windy city garage punk flagbearers the Baseball Furies have called it a day, it almost pains me to think this may the last slab of vinyl we'll be seeing from these guys! Alas, this is a killer blast of filthy, and indeed, rather furious sounding guitar driven rock, with songs that would sound quite at home sandwiched between, say, the New Bomb Turks and the Knaughty Knights on the mixtape sountrack to an evening of alcohol fuelled debauchery! And never mind the Reatards cover, this sucker's worth owning for the title track alone! (HC)

TERMINAL BOREDOM (USA) MAY 2006 The Furies vinyl legacy is a fine one, as they never, ever released a bad record over the course of their near ten year career. Whether that was due to strict quality control standards or just a difficulty in getting material together and recorded in a timely manner, it worked out perfectly. Unlike many bands, they didn't release a single every month and that factor probably aided their longevity. You had the chance to spend time with the records before jumping on to the next one. And I think that is also something that will make the Furies a stand out when we look back at these times ten years or so from now. While they maybe didn't get all the hype that other bands did, they were steady and reliable and made their vinyl appearances count. I also think it's remarkable that this single is the first record they've ever done for a non-US label. No whoring to the Euro limited edition market, when they released something it was always readily available for whoever wanted it. Classy? I think so. So, what to say about this, probably the next-to-last Furies record? It's great, as is always the case. "Lost Ones" should certainly make it on to any Best of Baseball Furies comp, and it's a track many of us have heard played live. Tough and modern garage punk shot through with Dead Boys swagger and streetwise sensibilities. Cigarette butt, broken bottle, shattered women punk. The flip holds up as well, contrasting the brief "Know That Girl" against the lengthier A-Side and closing it out with a version of The Reatards "Quite Alright", a song that fits their aesthetic perfectly, and a cover that goes all the way back to their Buffalo days. And, also remarkably, only the second cover song they've ever released. Shit, these guys could have made a killer covers record while we're at it. "Psycho Killer", "Trash", etc. etc...I could go on forever about these guys. Great live band. Cool dudes. I look forward to final LP, which should be spectacular from the bits I've heard so far. These guys were so good they had to die. Scum stats: 500(?) copies, 98 of which are blue vinyl. Nice die cut covers that expose the labels and create a flaming baseball effect. Well done. (RK)

LOW CUT (DENMARK) FEB 2006: Their ”Greater Than Ever” album is one the best damn records of the 00’s, and this is more of the same; raw, fucked, snotty and hardrockin’ punkrock with plenty o’ balls and attitude. Two bitchin’ original songs, ”Lost Ones” is a killer tune that rocks so hard it made my nuts hurt, and there’s even a cool cover of Reatards’ ”Quite All Right”. It doesn’t get much better than this, fellas. My fave 7” of this issue! Blue vinyl limited to 98 copies. (Jens)

SAVAGE MAGAZINE (SWEDEN) FEB 2006 Don’t know when this was recorded but it’s great shit. I mean that’s what you expect from the Furies and they will always deliver. Two goddamn great originals and a cool cover of the Reatards “Quite Alright”. It’s a shame they split up but I really hope they manage to get together to record that last album they’ve been threatening to do. This sure is a winner anyway and needs to be in everyone’s punkrock collection! (Thomas)

ITALIAN

RUMORE #172 (Italy) May 2005 Dall’ottima label teutonica arrivano come sempre buone notizie sul fronte vinile. Dig It !
